Varol Saatcioglu

Varol Saatcioglu was born in Edirne, Turkey. At the tender age of five, Varol was accepted into the prestigious Municipal Conservatory of stanbul, where he studied music theory and piano performance. After emigrating to the United States, he began studying the gaida (Bulgarian bagpipe) under the expert guidance of Georgi Doichev, former principal soloist with the Filip Kutev Bulgarian National Ensemble. He has also worked closely with Vassil Bebelekov, a beloved gaida virtuoso who has previously taught at Lark Camp.

Prior to moving to the bay area in 2016, Varol lived in Washington DC and was a member of the Lyuti Chushki ('Hot Peppers') Bulgarian traditional folk ensemble dance parties, music festivals, workshops, and weddings, from North Carolina to Canada. Since his move, Varol has been jamming and gigging informally with a variety of local ensembles.
