Vassil Bebelekov

Vassil Bebelekov plays the gaida, (Bulgarian bagpipes). He was born in Dervin (Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria). and inspired by Village traditions, especially the majestic kaba gaida played by his grandfather, inspired Vassil to a life of folk music. Starting with the Kaba Gaida at age 11, he's performed with Ensemble Trakia, the Philipopolis Ensemble and recorded for Radio Sofia. More recently, he was the visiting professor in the Ethnomusicology Department at UCLA. Vassil lives in California where he makes gaidas and teaches.
